Water Heater Advice Needed!

Anyone use a bird bath de-icer for this?

I have a 2-gallon plastic horizontal nipple waterer.

I'm hesitant to stick a fish tank heater in there because once the water level goes down at all, the heater will likely burn out from not being submerged. The Farm Innovations 250V De-Icer looks good but it's kinda pricey, and might be too big to fit my 2-gallon waterer.

I use these in buckets with horizontal nipples.

Will this work with a long extension cord? I have no power in my coop

FWIW, I did get the birdbath de-icer and have been using it in the 2-gallon horizontal nipple waterer. It's 12 degrees today and the water is still flowing fine from the nipples.
