We always fill up big waterers in the summer, but they are always empty next time we come out. We come out about twice a day!!!! Any suggestions?????

Thanks, LoveKhlassy

Why did that chicken cross the road???

How large is the waterer and how many chickens do you have??? Did you check for a leak??? Do any other animals have access to the waterers???

They drink a lot, especially in the heat. I had to get a bigger waterer just a couple of weeks ago. Don't let them run out, it is too stressful.

we try not to let them run out....

we have a good sized waterer, and no, i don't think it has a leak, although it is automatic, and i guess it squirts out water into the dish every hour or so...

we have 5 chickens in one pen and 20 in another.

no other animals can drink the water unless those stupid coons and skunks are breaking in again

....

Thanks for responding.....

I think we might already have the biggest waterer we can get. We're known at Farm&Fleet to load our cart with tons of chicken feed.

I'm not sure what kind of water dispenser you have BUT I have 15 chickens that drink less that 1 gal of water per 24 hrs.

I'd say you could buy a gal bucket to stick in there as a back up for less than $3(better thatn no water even if it gets a little dirty). I bought a 7" wide x 2' long bout 7" deep planter for $7 that i use for backup and I put in fresh water in this every 2 days... but it's never empty when I check it. My regular waterer gets fresh water every day and it's never empty with 15 chickens.

Is your water in the direct sun?

don't know how to upload pics....

no, my water isn't in direct sun....

i will try putting in 2-3 waterers with my baby broilers (20) as they grow bigger....

sorry... gotta run, thanks for answering me though, you're the first ones who ever did!!!!

I like this watering idea. Do you think that it would work using water from a rain barrel? I do not have access to direct well water where my coop is located. We use the rain barrells so that we do not have to carry the water.

I'm looking into using rain water too. I was thinking of using a toilet tank as the collecting reservoir, then just have to give it a flush every once in a while???
