im really having a hard time finding anything on here about watereing systems. both our coops are quite a walk from the house and hauling water back and forth is really hard on my knees and back. there has to be an easier way! toinght we just installed a 55 gallon water barrel down by the small barn and im hoping filling that up will last about a week down there.
now i our chicken coop we are raising 25 birds as of right now, who knows in the future. we did build a pvc watering system with drinking cups that we were both excited about but im filling it practically evey day and that is not the easiest of tasks let me tell you. our challenge is that our coop is about 3 1/2 to 4 off the ground with out electricity.
id love to see what everyone else is using besides the typical waterers.......any help and suggestions ill gladly take!

We used to have coops farther from the house so my husband added underground lines, i think pvc, to get over there.
Right now the farthest from a water souce is about 150 ft so i attached 3 long hoses together to get over there. In winter i'll just have to carry it. Think of it as forced exercise, and i like to carry max 1 gallon each arm at a time.

i would be okay with that temprarily but i know the hubby would have a fit if there was a hose across the lawn permanently. lol him and his damn lawn!

Personally, I prefer poultry water tanks that refill themselves. Saves a lot of time instead of having to clean out a barrel! They usually are very easy to put back together, and saves some money on water :frow

This is what I use. There's a nipple on the other side, also, but I only have 4 pullets. Don't have to go in the run to fill it and I keep no feed or water in the coop.

Yes, I have a dine-a-chook waterer and feeder. They were fine when I just had a few chooks before I went "chook-mad" and I needed bigger.

Now I have these

with these in them (there's a bung on the other side of the water containers that these fit into)

OP, what sort of distance are you having to deal with? I have a long hose that I leave in place and then I just connect up my hose from the tap with one of these

My hose from the tap is on a hose reel fitted to the side of the house next to the tap. If you didn't want the one to the chook pen to be lying about like mine, you could fit another hose reel at the "chook end" and join them up when you needed to. Of course, it depends how long you need it to be as to whether that would be sufficient.
