Waterer question

mine have been hanging since they were 2 weeks old and adjusted to be at a height even with their backs (I adjusted once a week until they were 17 weeks old) I have never had a problem with roosting, dirt, poop, knocking over, etc. I would say if you have one that does not hang....then replace it.

I bought mine specifically because it fills from the top. I had the smaller one that filled from the bottom and hated it, and couldn't imagine having to flip over a big one (I am small and weak). Are there any hanging ones that are made to be filled from the top?

my hen was lookin poorly this morning so she just layed there I thought she was dusting herself but she wasn't so I brought her into the house and ws going to doctor her and she wiggled some and had a spass attack and must have had a heart attack cause she died right in my arms! well I don't eat my chickens and thought about the verse in the bible where you'r not susposed to eat anything strangled ......so I didn't want to waste the meat so I cut her head off and skinned her what a mess! but finally did it and was sick doing it.......don't want to do that again! so then I boiled her and gave her to the dogs......

I bought the 1 gallon hanging waterer and hangine feeder from Tractor Supply about 2 weeks ago and love them. Of course, I hung them about a foot or so off the ground and they have worked great. A lot less waste on the food and mine do not get on top. I guess the hanging part is what discourages that. I just bought some poly rope and attached to them. I will attach a pic. I think if you hang it, that will that take away from your roosting problem. Just my advice though, fairly new to this myself. The one I have is actually slightly rounded on top too which helps out.

Yes, that would work only if you suspended it on both sides from the handles. Do not drill into the lid or hang from the lid. It will overfill with water and just keep pouring out if the cap is not airtight. Just make sure however you suspend it, both sides are equal and I would suggest rope. It doesn't have to be as thick as mine, but it was $5 for a bundle so I got it fairly cheap. Mine is only a 1 gallon waterer too and I have not found it difficult to fill at all. I think that will solve your problem though as long there is no cap modification or drilling. Could be wrong, but just my advice from previous experience with hanging a milk jug with a cut out 5 gallon bucket underneath. If the cap was off or not tight, the waterer poured everything on the ground. Hope this helps

My waterers are sitting brick height off of the ground with two liter bottles(filled with 1/4 water for weight) hanging 2 to 3 inches above them. This keeps the birds from roosting on top of the waterers. Every now and then one of the birds will jump onto a waterer only to be bumped off by the hanging 2 liter.

With the first nipple waterer I made, I noticed they weren't able to get water from it very well, like it was too slow. I used a "Simply Orange" orange juice bottle turned upside down. I decided to place a pinhole in the top of the waterer which is actually the bottom of the bottle. That tiny air hole made all the difference. I your bucket is airtight, the water may not be able to flow properly. Drill a tiny hole in the lid and check again.
