Waterfowl Pics and Chat!

In our city I've got a permit for "exotic, historic, and show quality fowl" in approved locations allready determined. I don't know about they state, but the city allows them.

So sorry about Lucky Marty.

Thanks Julie. Yeah, Julia took it pretty hard. I foolishly offered her the McMurry cataloge and told her to pick something she likes. Her only question now, after some thought, is which swan she wants.

Just what I need, some bitter swans. I really like the black swans at our zoo. I told DH I'll go talk to them and see if I can buy some eggs. He said, heck the fence is 3' high, when she lays I'll get you some. Hmmm......

Brave hubby.

Brave, yes. Guess he doesn't think hatching rule #5 applies to him.
a pair killed a man this last spring because his "job" was to feed them useing a kyak on their breeding island. I know it was the blind leading the blind on how to care for these birds but with children it does make one pause

Something to consider. At our zoo individual pairs are in a shaded 40 x 30 pen, with a 150 sq ft pond to themselves. The feed is where they can reach it from over the fence on the back side. They have a little sheltor I've never seen them use too.

What?!? I know swans can break bones with their wings, but kill a grown man? How the heck could that happen?

I've been thinking about swans for a couple years. They are beautiful, but there are a lot of drawbacks, too. A few weeks ago, I spent a couple hours on the phone with a lady who has swans. She was very helpful - gave me a lot of info and a lot to think about. She said they are definitely not birds you want to let kids around. That's my main hesitation.

Marty - maybe she'll decide she wants something a little "cuddlier."
