Waterfowl Pics and Chat!

Two of my sebbies have had blood on their sides in the last few days. You know how a little goes a long way, but still I have not figured out exactly what the problem is. One was very mild, the other a little more. No signs in the snow of dogs anywhere around the pen, so I'm wondering if either they are fighting each other, or the turkey is getting aggressive. I don't have pics, but I could try to get some. It's a sea of white out there.

edit to add one was on wing last 1/3rd, and the other is fron under a wing. Like feathers yanked out or something.

It can be fighting among the geese, but if you have only 1 gander it is less likely. Is a turkey kept with them?

We've trimmed him twice now. He's a midget white, and they are lightweight but very adept fliers. They roost in the trees when they find branches low enough. Keeping them in the fencing at all is almost a miracle. I guess we're gonna have to put wire on a pen for them, but I hate to limit anyones space so much (except chickens).

Has anyone ever had a turkey attack their goose? Ususally the sebbies are chasing them around. I've never seen him attack them, only people so far.

a few reasons for fighting and bloody feathers:

2 ganders in a confined space
too small a space for the number of geese and they are bickering
possible tom turkey being a butt head

since they are yearlings it isnt a wing grabbing issue like with hatchlings when the blood feathers first start coming in.

Marty, I think you need to catch him in the act to make sure its the Turkey.

Question: Just got a bottle of ACV, but I dont think it has the mother in it, can I still use it in my goose pools to delay algae build up?

I use it all the time in my wateres just started making my own with mother, take a gal of reg ACV buy 1 bottle of Braggs or Heinz with mother pour about 1/3 out of gal and fill with non pat. place a paper towel across top and put rubber band around place in a dark place in your house wait about 2 weeks, and wal-la you'll have ACV with mother, be sure to shake well before using, then when you need another bottle just use from your first gall to keep it going. I still only use reg in my pools just use the other in their drinking water and in their Fermented feed.

Found out why my sebbie wings are having issues. When I got home from work and was walking to the house, I heard a rucus in the goose pens. Turns out the sebbies are trying to snatch grain through the fence from the Africans. (Yes, the sebbies have a nearly full continer of identical food 45 feet away in their pen) The African gander had a hold of one of the sebbies through the fence, having grabbed him mid food robery. I guess we're gonna have to put up some 36" mesh between the africans and everyone else, or maybe wire up some sheets of aluminum I have out in the barn so they can't see or reach each other.

I was very surprised.
