Waterfowl Pics and Chat!

Well, the turkey may be off the hook but he's still a naughty boy. He spend every possible second following us around the bird yards making his aggressibe tom turkey noises, and waiting to jump on one of the DDs heads, or leap at the unwary. Everyone but me and Dad carry a "wonking stick" with them to keep him a few feed away, and smack him (aka wonk him) when he jumps at them. I need to make the two ladies and he their own covered pen. The hens are absolute dolls though.....

Found out why my sebbie wings are having issues. When I got home from work and was walking to the house, I heard a rucus in the goose pens. Turns out the sebbies are trying to snatch grain through the fence from the Africans. (Yes, the sebbies have a nearly full continer of identical food 45 feet away in their pen) The African gander had a hold of one of the sebbies through the fence, having grabbed him mid food robery. I guess we're gonna have to put up some 36" mesh between the africans and everyone else, or maybe wire up some sheets of aluminum I have out in the barn so they can't see or reach each other.

I was very surprised.

Yikes! I can totally picture that, too.

I bet you can! The Africans are very much in charge of every inch of space allocated to them in their pen. I don't think I'd dare keep him with anyone else! Everything is good until another boy goose comes around. He didn't want to let go earlier either. He's OK with me, but he seems very p.o.'d at at diamond the gray splash sebbie male.

Marty, I think you need to catch him in the act to make sure its the Turkey.

Question: Just got a bottle of ACV, but I dont think it has the mother in it, can I still use it in my goose pools to delay algae build up?
It will help some, but you really want the organic with mother. Better choice down here is Oxine in the pools, works like a charm

Not surprising at all, Africans are very loud and aggresive comapred the sebastopols and dewlaps. Shared fence lines need solid line of sight barriers (my favorite is shade cloth so they dont get hurt on sharp metal) to keep fighting down and to keep them from injury on the fence itself.

Good luck with the first eggs. In lock down here again with another round, and our new blue girl Liberty and her buff mate Justice are breeding and gave first eggs this week. Only two more sebbie pens to go for laying and they arent far off. Then our new TSQ grey Dewlaps arrive next week and she isnt laying yet where she is, so we have her eggs to look forward to. Sold off 4 PQ buffs to make room for this new pair and well worth the wait and price too.

Yes, they do grow fast. One (!) week ago this orpington was in an egg like this. They eat, drink and sleep. One hour later they start all over again.
