Waterfowl Pics and Chat!

Marty that should have read not npip, yes npip buys from npip or voids their testing. You get to spend an entire day on the phone with the states asking for their poultry importation laws for the 2013 year. (some are stupid, and some change from time to time)

Thanks C. didn't expect you to look it up for me but sure appreciate it.
so you can buy from NPIP others thats good I was beginning to wonder if it would even be worth it other wise.
Now they will test your whole flock even if your not going to be selling nothing but say Muscovy eggs? or sending Muscovy eggs.

Yes we tested birds in the chicken flocks who we dont sell eggs from as an incase, and to be an across the board of testing. No worries on the info I have it in a file on the laptop so was easy to pull out. each state is different, some require ALL birds, some do a sampling from the flocks.

Thanks for the info, I'll get in touch with Dr Mason and find out all info for NC,.

This is a great time of the year as most are very slow and can come out quickly compared to spring and fair seasons.
Good to know. The weather is the biggest issue here, especially now, but I'll contact and see what can be done.
I guess i could keep everyone up till who ever comes so at least if it is snowing freezing or raining we would be able to stay out of the weather.

I'm leaving mine locked in the barn that day. They are gonna be very unhappy, since he's got to go check a local elk heard first! LOL I'm getting everyone tested, since there are only 5 who aren't with mates and likely to be sold, but even so, I want all NPIP, in case I get sick of them and sell the extras.

Celtic, do you sell french muscoveys eggs? Poor spike, I'm either gonna have to hatch him some girls, or buy him two more. He won't play with the other ducks or geese. He's very much his own bird. I just feel bad for him now. The girls are trying to befriend him, but he's dubious. He hangs out with the turkeys more than anyone really. Its so funny to see him up on his little sawhorse near them, but not a part of them either. Poor little guy. (OK poor BIG guy)

Marty? what kinda Scovie is Spike?

Our state testers asks that we keep everyone locked up until tested. We worked as a team (hubby and I) and would each have a bird in hand to test. We also had two testers here plus one in training to get through them all quickly.

Marty we have 3 new (not so new as feathers are starting to grow) scovy ducklings. I havent vent sexed them yet. However yes we do sell hatching eggs, our girls are still laying and we have lots in the bator again.

Quote: He's a french white. (and a lonely one at that) After I posted that he sleeps outside, he elected to go in with the group last night. Guess he was afraid it would snow on him agian. I swear I could see him debating with himself "hmm, stay outside without those other dumb waterfowl, or go inside with them but be warm....choices choices."
