Hi everyone,

I have a quick (hopefully) question...I have 4 geese that live in a pen that is 25' x 50' and have a night time "safe house" that is approximately 8' x 16'. They get to free range whenever I am outside, so I can keep an eye on them. When I have to be in the house, etc., they go back to their own yard.

My question is that I would love to get a couple of runner ducks, (I think they are so cool!) but they would have to live with the geese and I was thinking that if I could get a couple of eggs and slip them under Bonnie this spring when she is sitting on her eggs, would the geese accept the duck(s) as one of theirs and live together as a family?

I see pictures of geese and ducks together, but I don't know if they would all get along being penned up overnight, etc. And I would be devastated if something happened to anyone because of being together...

Thanks!

Joanne

all summer long!

So cute!!!! I personally would not keep ducks/geese confined in small pen together, unless I had a spot where only the ducks could get into to escape the geese if the geese decided to bully them.

I was worried about that....I will just have to wait until I can get them a spot of their own.

I guess I was hoping that if they hatched the eggs with some of their own that maybe they wouldn't realize they were different :) wishful thinking on my part!

Thank you for your advice, it is very much appreciated!

Joanne :)

The goose could likely lt crush the egg since her eggs are much thicker in shell. 25 x 50 isnt a very large space, adding more birds to it of any species would stress all involved for a mostly full time living arrangement. You could fence off next to the goose area and allow a pass though space in the fence big enough for only the ducks. Then if you ever needed/wanted you could close it off to separate the two again.

Here is my daily pic of Baby and Lucky!

Hey Celtic, did you know that if I don't put spike up, he jumps their divider and hangs out with the trio. (and eats their food! LOL) Is he a good flier or jumper?? He doesn't seem to be hurting them. I'm thinking I'm gonna let him and Lucky hang out, she's all of his size, once she's up and around. Do you think he'll hurt her? He doesn't seem to fit in with the Anconas, and she wasn't a big fan either, having beenr aised with the sebbies.
Wonderful to see them starting to perk up! And, WOW, that's one big duck.
Me and some of the family
Beautiful flock you have going on there. I would love it if my mandarins would settle down enough to not go running into hiding whenever I come in, let alone come up for food. They are sharing space with a blind call duck and her buddy until spring, hoping those 2 will teach them I'm not the monster they think lol.
