You very kind Max 101. Have always wanted to go to the land under, was just afraid if I did I may not want to come back.
Today was going to warm up into the high 50s so I planned a special day for Maude. When you are stuck in hospital for a few days it is enough to make you feel bad, no matter how many trips they let you make walking around. I figured the same should be for chickens. So I pulled the sides up on the duck pen, laid a little fresh hay (they have about 8 inches if not a foot since it gets into the 20s at night) the ducks have a coop in the pen but like being in the open. Anyway had a full day planned for Maude to be outside. All 35 of the other chickens visited her (through the wire sorta speak), the ducks could care less..lol as long as she was out before it was their time to go in, have a nightly swim and gobble up food.
I dug her a good clump of dirt with new baby soft grass. She loved it. She would get tired here and there and retire to the ducks coop but when she came back out, the other chickens all visiting each time she stood by the wire. The one little bantam Millie Fleur (Flo) who got a few pecks from Maude yesterday was up for a challenge, since there was fencing to ward off any new pecking. So the two of them stood for about 5 minutes giving their best growls and head to the ground and back up (like a couple of roos). All in all I think she had a good day. She made sure her dirt with grass was brought in with her. She would head for the kitchen door every time I put her back in the papered area until I brought it in, in a pan. Who's spoiled and who's trained?!
Her poos are still weak. watery in the morning and infrequent during the day and loose with some water, but not bright green and not as much water. Her belly feels more supple, but can still feel the tumor, but kind of hard and flat, not so big. Just hoping that after today, (I will stop the tylan since it is not good for them to be on it so long) that it does not increase in size again.
If this goes on for another week I will check back with the vet to see what he thinks. Would hate to think that she will be weak and have to stay penned (for her protection) from here on out. Will keep you posted but probably not so frequent as not to take up too much space with chatter if nothing changes.
I case you are wondering. This was Maude on the 2nd of March,

This was Maude tonight on her much wanted pan of grass and roosting on the only chair I will let her on.

You can see she is looking better each day, but no where near her 100%, more like 35% to 40% of the Maude I know. Feather fluff sure can hide huge weight loss and if they don't look sick or act sick you may not know until the last minute. Now I make it a point to pick up at least some if not all the chickens each night after they go to roost even if its just for a 3 second weight check.
