Thanks Texas Kiki, I'll pass that information along. The last time I bought hardware cloth it was crazy expensive. Maybe that has changed (I hope!)

It's expensive but it helps protect/keep the bad guys from killing your flock.
at least wrap the bottom two feet with it and bury some too...skirt like around the whole chicken housing...to keep diggers out.

Everyone chooses a different management style, whatever you works best for your lifestyle is fine. Here's a couple articles that may help you keep your chickens happy and safe whether letting them free range or keeping them confined:

A lot of folks just wrap a layer of hardware cloth around the lower 1or 2 feet of the run to keep raccoons from reaching inside, and also over any windows in the coop. It's well worth the cost, especially compared to the cost of building a whole coop. Amazon
