We are doomed if educators can't write

Anyone who is well-read should consequently be well educated. Our founding fathers educated themselves, for the most part, and we have so many more opportunities then they did.

Anyone who is literate has no excuse for being illiterate in grammatical basics. Everyone makes mistakes. (I had to add that just in case....

) But the more you read the English language, the more the grammer is a part of the way you think. It is not a matter of remembering rules so much as it is a matter of emulating the writing of others.

As grammer goes, so goes communication, which is the foundation of a free society. Anyone ever hear of the first amendment?? It aint no good if'n noone can get what yous all are sain' now is it?

My son's school just paid $50+ for new Saxon math books, and already they have found OVER 30 errors. Who proofreads these books? I know I make a grammar error or spelling error once in awhile, but for the most part, I am a very good speller and sort of remember english. . .

I remember we always found a lot of mistakes in the old Saxon books too. Butit was worse when you answered the question correctly and it was in the answer key wrong! That diddnt happen often, but once in awhile.

the whay I remember it, one has to show respect or show disrespect I think it hurts my ears as much as the statement "grow your business" ! How about expand it ?

Weeeeelll, to me, showing respect isn't the same as respecting someone. You can very easily show respect to someone that you don't actually respect.

I can say:

I respect you, because I value you and your contributions to society.

or

I will show respect for my elders, regardless of their behaviour.

I do agree that "growing you business" is absurd. Unless you're in the business of growing things, in which case, it's just a (bad) play on words...

All my dictionaries list it as such. My newest one has Kanye West's picture in the entry.

I don't know about gramaricly correct, but it is grammatically correct. LOL

"Do not disrespect me" is very much a correct command.

When you say "please do not show disrespect to me" you lose the decisive and concise nature of a good command.
