Ill put in a word for Flatrock, Higdon an Bryant Al. Everything is cheep an lots of space but your close to everything too. "Usually" stays under 90 an over 32 an its on a plateau in the mtns.

My brother just bought 20 wooded acres there for $28K.

NC is pretty but I wouldn't want to deal with the high humidity...if the choice was between a tornado state and NC's or the other southern state's high humidity, the southern states would get my vote. I'm afraid of tornados.

I'm from northern KY and went to school in Bowling Green, and now live near Owensboro. My husband and I (boyfriend at the time) moved to Birmingham and Tuscaloosa AL for grad school. If you think it's hot and humid here, don't even consider AL! I could not be convinced to go back there!

Yep, loads of fun! Have you started stocking yet? I started last week, water everywhere, food and fuel piling up.... sure wish someone would put batteries on sale....

Oh yeah, the ticks and fleas should be coming out soon! But the camellias are blooming, the azaleas are budded, daffodils and snowdrops, irises, wisteria........

Well, there is that!

I lived in NC for a while and it's been home for generations of some of my family. At least there's usually some advance notice of hurricanes.

that people automatically jumped to the assumption that it had anything to do with people or culture of the Deep South. I lived in a Southern state for nearly two decades. I lived in a northern state for nearly two decades. I own homes on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line.

Very select list of reasons I will not live in the deep South
1) I hate Alligators. Some areas of the Deep South have alligators. Any area with alligators is automatically off my list.
2) I hate water moccasins. I will never again voluntarily live in any part of the country that has water moccasins. That strikes off large areas of the South. (One of the homes I own is in water moccasin country. Maybe I'll sell it someday...for now, a relative lives there.)
3) I hate the HOT, MUGGY summers. I simply cannot breath in them. I have health conditions that are aggravated.
4) Some regions are hurricane prone. I'd rather deal with tornadoes...

If hell freezes over, surely the south will be cooler too. It will also kill all the gators and the water moccasins. Thus, the Deep South might be improved...

I'd also be driven completely mad by the word Ma'am and miss, but that's another issue entirely and not enough to prevent me from moving to a particular region.

If my refusal to live in an area where there might be gators or water moccasins offends you, then don't feel alone. I refuse to live in areas where there are mountain lions or grizzly bears, either. High population of black bears? Nope. I'm out of there.

Copperheads, I can deal with...

Wow, Rozzie! Do you live in the lower 48? There's not too many places here that would meet your criteria! I'm picturing an island in the middle of a northern lake . . . Wait! Do black bears swim?

Well Rozzie....our state (since we live in the same state) does have a few water moccasins in the SE corner of the state. We also have mountain lions......even the Kansas Dept of Wildlife admits they're here now.....something lots of us who spend a lot of time outdoors have been positive of for years. In fact the last one that was acknowledged by the KDW was caught on a game camera up in your corner of the state.

Wanted to add that we get pretty darn hot and humid here in Kansas too.....humid enough it gives my asthma fits.
