I am
that people automatically jumped to the
assumption that it had anything to do with people or culture of the Deep South. I lived in a Southern state for nearly two decades. I lived in a northern state for nearly two decades. I own homes on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line.
Very select list of reasons I will not live in the deep South
1) I hate Alligators. Some areas of the Deep South have alligators. Any area with alligators is automatically off my list.
2) I hate water moccasins. I will never again voluntarily live in any part of the country that has water moccasins. That strikes off large areas of the South. (One of the homes I own is in water moccasin country. Maybe I'll sell it someday...for now, a relative lives there.)
3) I hate the HOT, MUGGY summers. I simply cannot breath in them. I have health conditions that are aggravated.
4) Some regions are hurricane prone. I'd rather deal with tornadoes...
If hell freezes over, surely the south will be cooler too. It will also kill all the gators and the water moccasins. Thus, the Deep South might be improved...
I'd also be driven completely mad by the word Ma'am and miss, but that's another issue entirely and not enough to prevent me from moving to a particular region.
If my refusal to live in an area where there might be gators or water moccasins offends you, then don't feel alone. I refuse to live in areas where there are mountain lions or grizzly bears, either. High population of black bears? Nope. I'm out of there.
Copperheads, I can deal with...
