We bit the Store Bought Eggs bug

I think you can still incubate them, but it should be a simple matter to ask to pick up the following morning's eggs before they have been put in the refrigerator.

Have I seriously been passing up perfectly good hatching eggs??? he

Generally, hatching eggs should not be stored below 50F. Reducing that to maybe 45 if they are to be stored a week. Humidity should be kept at around 70%., and the eggs should be turned if kept more than a couple of days.

If you go too far outside these guidlines then hatch rate suffers. You can hatch eggs that have been refrigerated, and you can hatch eggs that are over three weeks old, but not many will make it.

Ok. I've been wanting some hatching eggs from a particular pen of birds, but it would require saving a few days worth (can't drive an hour each way to get them fresh each morning). I didn't realize that the eggs would be fine.

What would be better for the eggs...chilling in a standard refrigerator for a few (3?) days or sitting at room temp? Actually, I may be able to ask that the eggs be stored in a garage? Cooler than room temp, but warmer than a refrigerator.

I don't know that they'd get turned while waiting, but eggs that are shipped aren't turned either and they seem to handle it alright. I think I may have been a little a bit over-cautious.

Let me introduce you to the USPS !!!

Do not refrigerate hatching eggs. Keep them cool (50F) and keep the humidity at 70%.

They will be ok for 7 days, and pretty ok for a few days longer than that.

We ended up with 12 clear eggs that could have been dinner.

I think they were just too old, and had been refrigerated.

We may try again if we can get fresher eggs.
