We bought her as an Amerucana, but....

but that means getting a rooster - not thinking chickens can pull of the whole immaculate conception thing

yeah uh, not really wanting a rooster, the luck i have with animals he'd really be loud!!! Sac county is not keen on chix as it is.
thanks for the info from PA!!!

My guesses:
Barred Rock, Easter Egger, Rhode Island Red
Sure on the first 2. I haven't yet learned the characteristics of Rhode Island Reds, so I can't say for sure on that one.

Well, if you're illegal, then I'm a FELON!

I couldn't be more in the middle of Philadelphia. I see City Hall from my bedroom. I always have a few cockerels around, but they have to go before they crow, or shortly after they start.

I do have some Serama roosters, but they're so tiny, they don't bother anyone. They live in the shed.

I can't wait until I can have a dozen roosters, all crowing their heads off. Some day...

WOW!!! SHE IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!! I might have to go so far as to say that she might be the prettiest EE I have ever seen!!!

Me too, thinks she is gorgeous!

Which hatchery did she come from?????????

Got her from a local guy, Doug Berny, here in Franklin, TN. We got 4 week old chicks - the 2 wyandotte's & the 2 EE's - just a random assortment. Mimi was a cute chick but then she blossomed into this great buff color.

I got 4 chicks from Frainklin last year too. They are very large EE's and all four are brown in color. Not what I ask for blue Amerucana but I'm keeping them. They were all girls.

I love hearing my roo crow. Even more fun is trying to figure out which direction the one answering him is coming from -- they are all around me.

How sad, and how behind the times, that these local governments are so resistant to roos. Hopefully the tide is turning, thanks is no small part to BYC.

PAPlock, you get ambulance, police sirens and barking dogs? Well what a roo can do!!!!

Even living on the farm, too many roos was irratating to my folks but just having one, it was alright. My parents got used to it, and they get up when the roo starts crowing. He was pretty much puncheral (sp) on the time!

Until hatcheries adopt the "EE" designation for these perfectly good mixed breeds, and take the trouble to differentiate them according to breed standards, this silly mixup will continue to occur. And people will feel they have been "taken" to some degree, by the seller, when in fact the seller was equally "taken" in most cases.

When I bought my EE's, the feed store had posted the flyer they got from Ideal, calling them Ameraucanas. I spoke with the manager, who I'd known for years, and who does not have chickens, and he had no idea about EE's; I also taught him how to sex a Barred Rock chick. This store is primarily a hardware store and he knows that business well; chicks are just a seasonal sideline. I assume this situation is common.

Perhaps the hatcheries persist in perpetuating this misconception because a little investigation will reveal the difference in quality between hatchery and breeder birds. In truth, many or most people will prefer hatchery anyway -- they often just want a good price for eggs, meat, pets and/or eye candy, and aren't interested in breed standards.
