Oh my gosh! I am so jealous! I would love have goats here, but we aren't allowed to have them anymore (the city changed the zoning rules

). When you breed them, are you only going to sell the offspring or keep some for meat/milk? Someday (when we move I guess) I want goats for meat/milk primarily with the weed eating as a bonus. Unfortunately our city changed our zoning from Rural Residential to R-1 Residential (like big city residential). We used to be allowed horses, goats, pigs, etc...now just chickens, cats, dogs and a pot-bellied pig.

I don't know which areas were rezoned or what, but our area should NOT have been! We live near Ranchero and Cottonwood (near the Hesperia Airport). Summit Valley is south of us....that's it. We have large lots all around us too, so we were all changed to R-1 residential over 18,000 square feet (to give us added "perks" for being large lots). With 1/2 acre lots up to 5 acres around here, why do we need to be city residential? They did it at the peak of the market, so I think they were catering to the city folk moving up here. The new city municipal code says fowl only on 5 or more acres (prior to residential use?!?!), but when we called the city, we were told we are allowed 2 chickens per 3500 sq. ft. of property and 10% roos (so 10-12 chickens with 1 roo for us). I think Hesperia wants to be like Victorville, where they think that the high desert needs to be like "down the hill". Victorville has a limit on the number of fish you are allowed!

Who counts goldfish!

We are allowed 4 dogs (or 3 dogs and 1 pot-bellied pig

), so why aren't we allowed goats? Hence...we plan on moving when the economy turns around and the property value goes back up.

If you ever decide to raise them for meat or milk, let us know!!! We really want to try fresh goat milk. And have you tried goat meat?

A wether is a castrated male. The term applied mostly to sheep and goats.

Not wethered but they are pretty far from the house and down wind too

. We do want to breed when we find a female.

wow I get $200-$500 each for the ones I sell! those were some cheap goats, even for meat mutts! congrats!
