This morning, Babette laid her first egg. It's the one on the left and is slightly larger and speckled!! Then, a few hours later, her sister Lucille laid her first egg! It's the darker, smaller one on the right.

I'm so proud of my lovely ladies! I KNEW it was going to happen today! They are 16.5 weeks old and are both Golden Comets. They're the eldest hens in my flock, so it will still be awhile before we get more from the rest of the ladies.

Congratulations! And the color is obsenely lovely, isn't it? So many things go wrong in our world, it's hard to keep track, and hard to know how to respond. But your baby girls making thier first eggs is such a kicker! It's just a grand and glorious event! We felt the same way. Even though we knew chickens lay eggs, it was still such s shock and surprise! Now there's so many we eat Crustless Quiche at least once a week!
