We Quit Cigarettes

Still on the wagon today. Getting yard and garden work done. Garden fence still needs a tiny bit of work done to make the gate prettier, but soo close to finished. The side yard is fenced off now!!!!! I really pissed the neighbor off doing that project, but they'll get over it. Bunch of new stuff getting planted in garden every day. My goal is to plant at least 1 thing daily for the next month, or until I run out of room.
Kids and doggie all happy and healthy.

I don't have any schnapps... I have Creme de Menthe, though -- both clear and green. And a tiny bit of Kahlua, some Triple Sec, Razzmatazz, and Amaretto.
I don't drink alcohol, but I do cook with it!
Throw them all in the trash.

I did not eat ice cream today.:celebrate

No, seriously -- I don't drink, and I do not intend to start. I once had a spoonful of ice cream that had had some Creme de Menthe over it ( I do that occasionally -- not enough to have any affect, just a tablespoon or two at most for the flavor) and was melted a bit -- the melted bit of ice cream had mixed with the liqueur, and the burn was awful. I can't understand people who drink alcohol straight.
You won't get me hooked on alcohol, nope. The stuff's painful!
Just as a side note, I also use vodka for homemade extracts... I have vanilla and orange extracts in progress, and really want to try coffee in the near future.

 Vodka for base in extracts???! May I ask what "quality of vodka"? I'll admit to being a serious light weight with alcohol but, I'll just as easily admit to being an alcohol snob just the same. After all, if I'm gonna taste something it's not gonna be crap. My annual consumption can be calculated in the 6-pack per year category. And has been that way for, well... At least 40+ years of my life.... There were a few years where that avg. was breeched, 2 of them birthdays & once while in the Navy after graduating Rescue swimmer school.

When making extracts with vodka, they recommend 100-proof, I believe. I think that it's supposed to absorb the flavor better, making a stronger-tasting extract. I've just been using a bottle of Smirnoff vodka -- not quite 100-proof, because it's an experiment and they didn't have 100-proof vodka in smaller bottles.
Really, the brand and quality doesn't matter when making extracts -- a cheap bottle of vodka will work perfectly fine because you're flavoring it with something else, like vanilla beans or orange peel. It's not the vodka you'll taste -- it's the flavoring that you used.

Yeah... depending on the brand, a food or drink can taste really good, or really bad.
It doesn't matter to me, no one in the house really drinks that much... dad has a couple of beers about once or twice a week and my brother puts a bit of rum in his Moxie, but that's about it.

We do this as well. My sister=in =law started it by making everyone homemade vanilla extract for Christmas one year.
Will have to try orange and lemon as we have Mayer lemon, blood orange and navel orange trees. Any advice for the citrus extract?
Thank you
