We Quit Cigarettes

Here's me with my husband's crazy chicken. My phone is busted so I can't do selfies. But I found this one with no makeup 😁

Thank you. That's a nice picture. I have a old girl like that. She's blind. A possum got her last year, I thought for sure she would die. The people here took me through every step to save her. I kept her and her sister in my house for two months!

Do you have any barred rock bantams
This is about flogging, not crowing, but still....
Shoot @WVduckchick read the posts I didn't want her to see.

Oh wow. I'm glad she made it through all that craziness and her sister! You're a very good person helping them out. I've only had hawks try to get mine, but now that I have my big rooster there isn't much of an issue.

I'm hatching more and more all the time so I can get a nice variety.

Today we cook our first harvest from our meat chickens I hatched. Just a nice roasted chicken with veggies is what I'm doing.

You don't get attached to your chickens? I couldn't kill one of my girls. That meal sounds really good. I fried chicken last night, invited my husband for dinner. He said I look terrible ! Hurt my feelings. But I know I'm looking real bad. Dark circles under my eyes,.
I butcher my own. I do get attached to some, but I hatch too much to keep them all, and I'd rather eat meat from a bird I raised and killed as humanely as possible than from a bird that was never loved, never got to go outside, never got to feel the sun on its face.

These three were going to be meat chickens from the beginning pretty much. Two of them are not even from my flock, I bought them and a chicken swap and I picked wrong. I thought I had females but I didn't. The biggest one was one that I created by crossing my Jersey Giant with my barred rock, he was made to be a meat bird.

I wouldn't eat any of my laying flock. They're safe. The weird part about me processing these chickens is that I am plant-based and I don't even eat meat, but my family does so I raised these chickens for them.

The one that I hatched and process got to live his life with the layer flock. He snuck through the chain link fence and went into their huge run so I just let him stay there until his last day. He had so much fun running around with everybody.
