Weapons of choice?

Sorry friend, but I've got to stick up for Mary on this one.

I see you have been a member for a while, but don't post much and perhaps don't know the personalities who participate? I think you might have missed your mark on that shot......

People who own guns know the difference between real and fake guns. People who don't the difference have NO business messing with them in the first place.Guns don't kill people People kill People. The Gun is an innocent bystander. A gun can't just come out of a drawer or closet to hurt someone unless someone is on the other end of it.A GUN IS DUMB AS DIRT. It has no intent on hurting anyone. We aren't the criminals. It's not stupid it's a fact of life that manufacturers of toys have been allowed to make toys look so real that law enforcement have to pay very close attention to these guns. It's their life on the line.I would do the same as them if put in their situation. Wouldn't you? When it comes to guns and me protecting what is mine the rant will never be over.I will fight to the death if necessary. We The People know what guns are and know how they are to be used for.So it would be best for you to stop your belly aching. I can see your not to fond of guns.

My apologies. I feel the same way . things aren't like they were when we were kids. Back then you knew the difference. Things today are way out of control.

Woah! I seem to have missed quite a bit here.

When my step kid was in high school, he somehow managed to get caught by the cops out in the street of our neighborhood with an Air soft pistol. You know, one of those toys that leaves the little plastic balls allllll over your floor, and that the vaccum won't pick up?? So before I continue, let me make this crystal clear. This gun looked every bit of the toy it was. It was made of clear plastic, with the moving parts inside colored plastic. There was absolutely NO mistaking this for a real gun, at any distance, no matter how terrible your eyesight is.

Anyway, some self important small town cop got all excited about this obvious toy gun that a little boy had, and held the kid for a parent to pick up. The poor kid wasn't doing anything wrong like shooting at people or property, according to the cop. He just had a toy gun with him. So anyway when I arrived to talk to the cops, they wouldn't release him to me because I was a step parent and not a *real* parent. The cop tried to give me some stupid line about "not knowing if It was a real gun". Um, really??? It was clear plastic with brightly colored internal parts!!! It was completely ridiculous and in my opinion way out of line of this police officer.

Anyway. While I agree that toy guns should look like toys, I feel that there are police officers out there who either are just real jerks, or need a lot more training.

Training is always good! And there are jerks in every field somewhere.
But it's ridiculous that lethal weapons and toys can look identical!

Yes, it should be easy to tell the toys apart from the real ones. Not that it is 100% effective. I have seen a bit of a trend in the past few years towards neon colored toys. But on the flip side of that there has also been a trend towards pink shotguns and the like, so it may always be difficult to tell real apart from fake.
