Weasel in the Garage

With one of these does it look like? Does it have markings on its face, or no markings and a bright white belly? Ferret ⬇View attachment 2439904

I did not see it, only my brother and dad saw it. They said that it was white with a brown tipped bushy tail. They also insisted that it was a ferret but I beg to differ.

If its a ferret, it's either a pet or used to be a pet someone dropped off. If it's a weasel, it's not a pet (nor legally at least). If you leave it, it will likely massacre your birds. If you trap it, kill it. Don't make someone else have to deal with a predator because you couldn't kill it
I never killed an animal before, I felt like crap when I saw a mouse get stuck on a glue trap that my dad set up. What if I release him into the woods miles away from the nearest chicken farmer?

Try to find out if it is domestic. Live trap it, and go from there. Post a post of it on you local Facbook page and see if anyone goes for it. If you could release it really far away from any live stock owners, I think that would be fine. Or, you would have to hardware cloth everything, because that is the only thing a Weasel can't get through. I fit can't get to bro birds and you keep it out of you house, then it will likely leave on its own. They can get through a hole the size of a quarter.

My dad found a weasel in the garage. It is white with a brown tip on its tail. It jumped on his boot and looked at him and it seems pretty tame. It will scamper a few yards away from you if you get too close and does seem curious. It most likely moved into the garage because of the mice and the warmth. So I have a question. Will the weasel kill my chickens? Do I have to kill it or will it know better? 😔 The coop is about 10 yards away from the garage.
I have 14 chickens.
Careful!
»Tame« wild animals might be in the first stages of rabies.
And yes, any kind of "weasel" will kill your chickens. It is their nature.

I think your best move would be to live on harmony with your resident weasel and let him keep your rodent problem in check.
Your first step would be to make SURE your coop is secure (no gaps or holes. Cover those with 1/4 inch hardware cloth to keep your weasel out of your coop at night. This is when he hunts. If he gains entrance to your coop he can kill dozens of chickens in one night.
Read some of the other posts about folks overrun with rats and mice and you can appreciate what that cute bloodthirsty little weasel does in nature to keep a rodent populations in check. Free, no poison, no trapping and no expensive exterminator fees.
Good luck!
