Oh my poor dear has a sore now

she has cleared the feather down completely from her ear, and injured her lower eyelid. it is scabbed and closed. she doesn't seem as irritated, but clearly there is still an issue. I haven't quarantined her. I wasn't able to watch her closely today. No one picks on her though, actually she seems to be everyones baby. She takes the little role and has always seeked out a wing to hide under and never challenged anyones pecking order. She's just little. (Don't tell athe others) but she's also my favorite

I have her snuggled up in a cup next to me right now. she seems happy here would upload...photo...hmm

Poor thing! Mine does not have a wound yet but the area is getting very raw and looks like it will bleed very soon... this morning I got my dog's dremmel tool and tried to smoothen the nails to prevent damage..I am trying antibiotics from my pet feed store as I was starting to suspect it may be an ear infection (she scratches the ears most and does a lot of head shaking)... but as other poster said.. I am concerned if this may be neurological... mine also tends to keep the eyes shut as yours...
yours is sure a cutie! let's hope they get over this soon..its just terrible not knowing what is going on!

I made a video of her during one of her episodes:
Today, she had an episode this morning, lasted about 10 minutes. She seemed though to scratch less intensely today and seemed more aware of her surroundings. She was eating and drinking in between scratching whereas before she would only scratch and then rest in between with her droopy head between her legs. I am hoping she is getting better. It is just a wait and see thing...

Are the other chicks pecking her? you don't want them to hurt her and they will and she is not able to get away from them during an episode.. does look kinda nerologicial [sp] poor baby.. if the other chicks are hurting it you might want to give it it's on little container inside the brooder so it can still hear and see the others but they can't get to it.. I hope the little one makes it.. you can get antibiotics to put into ears for animals..

Now I did not watch the video clip, but your description has me wondering if that particular chick is not allergic to something in the booder box? if you keep her separated is she ok?

The original author of the post claimed her chick was not being pecked and neither is mine... allergic reactions may be a possibility.. but to what?
I have kept mine isolated and yesterday had an itching attack, but today it seems a little bit less intense.. do they sell antihistamines safe for chicks, if it is an allergic reaction? can benadryl in small chick doses help? I have started mine on antibiotics because I felt it may have been an ear infection..

OMG! another chick just started doing the exact same thing! Now I am really worried! I added her to the other in quarantine..this is really getting weird...
