I have 4 chicks. One took about a 2-3 foot fall today and has been limping and laying down a lot. I separated her from the others in the brooder. When I touch her leg and body she doesn't seem distressed. I have read people give their chicks poly vi sol. Should I do this? Do I just wait and see? I just would like to be reassured she will be ok. She is my favorite so far....

Poly vi sol is a suggestion that is supposed to be IF people already have it on hand for their kids and NOT for them to go get it. Also they may be treating for a vitamin deficit. I don't give extra for a simple injury... but it won't hurt IF you WANT to give some vitamins short term. Most important is that water stays poo free and they are fed a formulated starter or flock raiser.

Poultry nutri drench is a better product for chickens, but likely isn't needed now. It's always good to get it and have on hand though.

I would put the chick back with the others as long as it isn't being trampled and can get to food and water. Being alone or separated can be stressful.

Yes, your chick will very likely be OK. It can take a short period of time to recover from a twisted ankle or knee type injury, or pulled muscle, or maybe even bruised bone. Accidents stink.

Hope your babe is up and around quickly! :fl

Thank you for replying. Man I was crying so hard. We have one chick that beats up the injured one which is why I initially separated her. She is starting to stand more. So hopefully soon I can put her back with the rest. Right now she is in a clear container in the brooder so they can all see each other. They all cuddle next to the plastic when they decide to take a rest. Its pretty cute.

Day 2 update. Still getting up to eat and drink but started to sleep with her leg out. She is putting pressure on her toes now instead of holding her leg up. Hoping this is signs of improvement.
