Hello! I have a blue Orpington chick that was mail delivered a week ago. Everything was fine until she was like 5 days old when we noticed she was reluctant to walk on her feet and would mostly walk on her hocks with her wings flapping. I reviewed some discussions on here and it seems to sound like vitamin b2 deficiency so we did start her on a b complex yesterday- about 1 day after symptoms started. I am wondering if anyone has had similar experience with such a young chick? Today is the second day we have her the b complex and truly don’t see much improvement. I am not sure how long it might take. She can and does stand, but is very wobbly and doesn’t last long. She is eating and drinking

How old is she now? I don’t have experience with a chick walking in hocks but I can tell you from experience that vitamin therapy can take time to fully work. The severity of the deficiency can play into how long it takes for symptoms to resolve. While I would expect to start seeing improvement in a few days, it’s possible that you won’t see improvement for a week or so. All symptoms may not fully resolve fully for a few weeks. It can be discouraging to treat for issues like this at first bc it can seem like nothing is working. But deficiencies take time to replenish, keep at it.

A different scenario, long story, but I treated a wild bird for wry neck using vitamin E and a b complex. I did not see improvement for the first few days. I was discouraged and even talked about putting it down, thinking I was wrong about the diagnosis. After about a week I started to think I finally saw the slightest bit of improvement. Slowly, every week I did see improvement. It just takes time.

I found this about @RoyalChick s chick Bernadette! It has some good information in it and you might find it encouraging:

I was just going to link to that thread.
@Abshans vitamin B will take maybe weeks to work. Get a bottle of human B complex capsules and give her the contents spread on mash. It is safe for the others to eat so no need to isolate her - just use more capsules to make sure she gets enough every day.

We found vitamin b complex at Walmart and crushed it up and sprinkled it in their food. We had rooster booster already for our older chickens so we added that to their water along with riboflavin capsules we opened and sprinkled in. It might have been overkill but from what I read you really can’t overdose vitamin b since it’s water soluble. I got rooster booster from chewy.com and riboflavin also from Walmart. Took a few days but she regained her strength and stability. Hope your chick gets better soon!

I cannot see what part of the world you are located (it is good to put that information in your profile).
In the US and many European countries you can get B vitamins as a human supplement in a pharmacy or drug store.
You can also order them on Amazon.
