Week Old Chick with Eye Injury

I work for an eye doctor. It looks like she has preseptal cellulitis. It's pretty swollen because of the cellulitis. Typically that is a secondary infection to trauma or infection. It is an infection of the tissues around your orbital.

I was posting an update on an older thread. It turned out she had an abscess behind her eye due to a puncture wound of some sort. The vet drained the abscess and prescribed antibiotics.

It's weird, though, because she still has her eye, but it's as though it sunk into her skull. She no longer opens it, and there is a deep indentation (pit) where her eye is/was. Do you know why that would happen?
