and springchickens, that is an AWESOME idea. i think too often that weight loss/diets/exercise because this really negative thing that we only look at in terms of what we CAN'T have, or what we HAVE to do, etc. i pretty much do what she does, but i need to get better w/ eating more fruit!

congrats to you, allthesecreatures! you're so close!!! i'm glad so many people in the tread are eschewing "diets" in favor of just eating healthy foods, in healthy proportions, and getting a bit of exercise. for most of us, that's all it takes!

thanks, I have yoga in the morning. It's been that time of the month so no weighing in again until I am sure I am not bloated any longer LOL. I take cranberry on a regular basis, it really helps to keep my bladder regulated. Ever since I had my daughter my bladder still thinks I am preggo. I can't even sneeze LMAO. Anywho, I am still feeling much better than I did when I was eating all the bad juju foods and sodas. Iced tea and water are my new best friends!

Glad to see all of you are doing well, allthesecreatures, keep it up lady! You are soooo close. I am with you we have about the same left to lose.

Remember, when you see something (example: the big chocolate lava dessert on the applebees menu) you don't need, to ask yourself, "do I need it? will I regret it later?" and if the answer is no to the first and anything but no to the second then DON'T DO IT! I have been having my bouts with the tempting and delicious looking stuff I absolutely DONT NEED. Keep your motivation up and if you need some support let us all know!

Down by 12 pounds now! WOOT! I havent heard a peep from any of my ther friends here on BYC trying to lose weight. Hope all is well with everyone!

Good girl, Missred'...I've been pretty off the wagon (darn it) and I won't bother with excuses. Thanks for posting to remind us all to keep on getting healthy!

Haven't read the whole thread but I am going to throw this in here anyway....

My daughter just lost 70 pounds. She just turned 25. She is special needs and what an accomplishment for her. She lives in independent living and really does well on her own (fully staffed)

She had a staff for the last year that was really concerned about her weight as was I. She was on about 15 different kinds of meds and I was very unhappy with her quaility of life. I decided to take her off all meds with her staff's full support. I wanted to 'see' my daughter again! So, bought vitamins and started her on her med's taper off program.

Long story short she came off all meds with flying colors....no longer has seizures which started the meds in the first place and it has been a year.

She was still eating unhealthy....everything she wanted in amounts that she wanted....then she got constipated. Badly. Over a week of really bad pain. We used stool softeners, prune juice...fruit....everything we could think of. Finally things let go.

She then asked her staff to help her learn to eat right so it would never happen again.

Now here is where we should all be ashamed of ourselves....me first!!!

Elizabeth learned that walking everyday would help her body process her food. She will tell you when she feels the burn from walking, and she power walks, that it is her fat burning. Sweat is the fat getting out!
Then she learned that if she wanted to lose weight that she had to eat the right foods that would keep her healthy and that would burn the fat that had build up over the years.

Things she ate:
Double fiber bread
Tuna salad/made with lots and lots of veggies cut up finely and hardly any mayo...but mayo instead of MW
Apple EVERY day
Chicken cooked healthy with lots and lots of veggies
Pork chops....cooked healthy
Once a week a small pork roast with lots of veggies
Peanut Butter Sandwich on double fiber bread

No potatoes....ever....she was obsessed with potatoes any way she could get them
No cheese...this started the problem
Nothing processed at all
No beef

Applesauce...sugar free
mandrian oranges

Snacks....that help burn belly fat:
1/2 c. cottage cheese with either 1/2 peach or pear
peanut butter on a piece of double fiber bread

Those snacks, one or the other at night as a snack before bed....they say it really burns belly fat! It did for her.

Water....lots
No sodas
Tea if wanted...and it was sweetened lightly with real sugar, no fake sugar at all for anything

Elizabeth was eating very unhealthy and unchecked. Anything she wanted in whatever amounts she wanted on and no one stopped her. I think the reason this worked for her so well was that SHE wanted it, SHE did not want to ever have stomach problems again, and one very patient staff that explained the reasons for eating the things she was eating. She reached her goal weight that was 145, went below and now stays between around 142 and 148. BUT she weights every day right after walking and right before eating supper! Every day......that way she can see if she goes up two or three pounds and if she does she is extra careful over the next three days. She is adding new things to her diet slowly....and some things she does not want to eat again because she sees what they do to her weight. About two times a month they take her for an ice cream cone....and it takes about three days for her to get that off.

My thoughts are if she can do it I should be able to do it. In the meantime I am so proud of her! All strikes were against her....including a very strong sense of self satisfaction. But she is still determined.

I recently got a call from her 'cordinator' where she stays and he was concerned that she was obsessed about her weight. After I explained all to him, including how much she really weighs he backed down and understood. He was afraid it had become an obsession. I asked him if he thought that someone that weighed 148#'s at 5'6" was not enough. He said he had no idea she weighed that much. Plus he did not understand that she was adding things to her diet slowly and then watching to see what they do to her weight. It takes a lot of talking and a lot of repeating, but she is really learning a lot. The problems is she is starting to watch everyone elses food intake....and they really do not appreciate it!!! I think it is funny.

bburn your daughter's story is very inspiring. Good for her and her good health! My hubby who always had a problem with portion control just lost 30 lbs by eating a POUND of salad every night. He has this huge mixing bowl I call his "Jethro" bowl and weighs the veggies. On the weekends he lets go a bit. Now he just has to start exercising regularly. The same methods don't work for everybody. I think everyone has to find their own motivation and also own method that works for them. For some it is a food diary, for me it is not overeating at night. During the day I'm really good but at night I have to pay attention to what I eat and keep busy other ways. Good luck to everybody who is trying!

My goals for then end of this month and October are as follows:

Eat three fruits and three veggies every day
For the entire month of October, no meals out
and now for the weird one....the camping exercise program. Every time we camp, it is a considerable walk to the restroom; 15 minutes round trip on the last trip. So, I'm going to go for a short walk every time I have to pee. I figure with the amount of water I drink, I'll get 30-60 minutes of extra exercise each day, depending on the length of the walk.

I report in on Mondays to let you know if these changes are enough for weight loss.
