weird chick bums?

Hi All,

My little ones are about 10 days old and I originally thought they had a bit of pasty butt. Turns out not so much. Just below their vents they have a bump that would appear to be where the yolk was attached and it makes them look like they have pasty butt. I have been cleaning bums to make sure no one gets blocked. Should these attachments points have dried up and fallen off by now? They don't appear to be causing any problems other than being poop catchers. Not all the babies have them, but some of them are quite large. The kids are all happy, hungry and active. How soon should this issue alleviate itself as I would like to be off butt cleaning duty?

They may be irritated from your cleaning them. I'd probably put a bit of antibiotic ointment on them once or twice a day for a few days to see if this will help them heal up. Be sure the ointment or cream you use has no "caine" drug in it, such as benzocaine, cetacaine, etc.
