. Here is my "ombre" egg.from my RI white Blanche.

Lisababes - I've had several that have what look like scratch marks on them and I've noticed that some of the hens move the eggs around with their beaks. I've always wondered if those scratch marks were scrapings from the beak over the surface of the bloom. They're not as noticeable on white eggs, but definitely are on colored eggs (anything other than white).

Ok, now I know this isn't just my birds who lay strange sizes and odd looking eggs.
Also 2 weeks ago they boycotted me and only laid 2 eggs for 2 days. I built a new pen as they cant free range when the garden is young so perhaps they were mad?
They are now back to laying the 5 to 6 per day. Getting ready for the super hot weather in Indiana.
They all seem happy now.

I'm getting jealous. All of my eggs have been normal. I'm actually excited to find a weird egg to post!
I have to admit that I look forward to an occasional weird egg. They make great conversation pieces and are great for show and tell. Here is my latest:
I think it is so dark because she applied all the color she would have normally spread on the normal sized egg.

Thats a bigone , those are nice eggs what type of chicken are they from, nice light brown
Thanks! It's hard to say what type of chicken laid that, to be honest. I have a buff orpington, 2 jersey giants, blue cochin, golden comet and a mystery chicken that are all laying well. Since I'm not home during the day I have a really hard time know what girl laid which egg. If I were to guess though, I think the big one came from one of the Jersey Giants.
