Hey everyone!! Quick question... does anyone put a shallow pool out for their chickens to go in when the summer days get super hot and muggy? If so, do you feel like you are doing them a favor or not so much?? My chickens have plenty of shade and lots of water, but sometimes I just feel like they need a little something else. Make sense?? Anyway, let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Some people do, and it can definitely help them. The water acts as a heat sink to help cool them down, and wetting their feet helps them evaporate away their body heat.

Yes! Some of my older hens love to wade in the cool water and I have a dishpan I use to get a huge cube of ice and put that in the water. They hang around it all afternoon when it's hot, like now! Some wade, some don't.

I'm very new to raising chickens, but I can tell you I built a small pond for my two ducks and I have seen the chickens explore quite a bit. Haven't caught them going in yet but I've seen some wet bums as evidence lol.

Sounds like they are going for it! Water helps when it's 100 degrees like it is here!
