Hello everyone, I have a pair of Toulouse and they have started a nest next to the front porch. They have 5 eggs in it so far and are protective while they are getting ready to set. I have read that sometimes they will nest in the fall so even though this is not typical I didn't think it was too strange. But they have other quirks. Lately they are acting strange when they are in their pool. I noticed the female gets in the pool we have for them and pulls grass from outside to drop in the water. They are filling up the pool with grass and stuff, any idea why?

I don't know if there is any rhyme or reason to why they put things into their pool or drinking buckets. Mine do the same thing i find rocks and sticks and other things that they can pick up in their bills in the pool and buckets. My females if standing around will gather things laying around her and place them at her feet like she is gathering nesting material. They are interesting to say the least..

Are your geese in a very secure area because a goose sitting out side of protection is just like a sitting duck open to a predator attack not only on her but her goslings when they hatch and not geese are a match for anything with teeth. I don't care how mean and protective they may act around us. If mine she would be brooding inside a safe house with her mate by her side.
