My chicks are about 3 weeks old and there is one chick that its wings are not laying flat against its body like the rest. The tips stick out and away from the body.

Is there a name for this problem? Has anyone else ever had it. I am thinking I had better cull it. But I was curious as to what it was before I did.

I can't figure out how to post a pic here. I can get it on my computer but don't know how to download it to BYC so I can't show a pic of it.
Thanks, I hope someone knows the answer.

Post a pic. I saw a thread about this. If it looks like I think they will grow out of it. Do not cull untill we can see it. It may be normal.

I love your quote! So true. I am new so I have no advice, but would love to know the answer too. I have some two week old silkies, and the tips of thier feathers stick out, but maybe that's normal? I really don't know.

Sounds like angel wing. I wouldn't cull. Angel wing is cause by too much protein in the diet. What are you feeding them?

I am feeding them medicated chick starter. It is the only one that has it out of 20 chicks.

I want to post a picture but can't figure out how...

Did you order your chicks through a hatchery? I did with my buff orpingtons, and I ended up with a rooster that has a wing that the feathers stick out (the last couple long ones). He also has to keep lifting his wing as though to keep it in place like the other one. It looks as though it annoys him, but he has gotten used to it. I assume that it has something to do with the way they are handled at the hatchery....here is a link to a YouTube video. If it doesn't work, check out YouTube, and enter "hatchery video"...you will be shocked at how the baby chicks are handled. Anyway...my rooster is a sweet guy and I would never cull him because of the way he was handled. But that's just my opinion....

No, I hatched these out of eggs I bought off ebay. I don't think it is a frizzle because it is only the wing tips.
I have heard of angel wing but thought only geese got that.

Everytime I look at it I just think "whoa" that has to be a deformity but what?
