Well it was a long day yesterday, but I have two new chicks (one hatch went bad). The 30% hatch rate was right on point and against all odds. I decided last minute not to go with local Wild Type eggs and instead ordered eggs. I received 7 and they ended up being delayed two extra days (thanks USPS) in the mail. Even though I followed every recommendation, read several books and quized this forum upside and down, there are things now, I would do differently if done again. It is an art more than a science. #1 & #2 survived of numbered eggs. Both are IBBS. I made a little video of their arrival (the instagram link) for family and friends, and a story to go along.

My super secret project arrived yesterday.

This is Peachick Club - Part Deux

(longer explanation below) The Video clips from yesterday taught the first three life lessons of Chick Club.

#1 - Sometimes you start the day rolling out of bed smack onto your face. Try to make the best of it.

#2 - Sometimes your cellmate (and sibling) does the exactly same thing. Try not to laugh. See... it is not just not you, everyone has bad days.

#3 - If you don't like your situation change it. JAILBREAK!! (that one surprised the daylights out of me)

(I have some from today, but I am trying to catch up still.)

The longer story is ... When I got my first three, only days after my car accident, they were supposed to be only days old. They were a month old but I decided to role with it. Then I lost one of my three (Luke) due to stress of travel (and sedatives the breeder gave him :-/ ). I saw how much they are flock animals, and I didn't want the remaining two to be alone if something happened to one of them. I decided to purchase some peachick eggs quickly, knowing that, I was doing well to have only 30% hatch rate. So I calculated, and bought 6 eggs, and the breeder sent an extra.

The package ended up being delayed in the mail which was NOT good at all. I never said anything to anyone because of possibly losing all of them. At a week incubated I removed 4 eggs from the incubator due to early "issues", leaving 3 eggs for the remainder of time. Yesterday morning I awoke to my phone buzzing constantly, they were hatching (yes, I set that up to be smart). #2 hatched first, then #1, and #4 (the original numbers) got half way hatched and had issues and looks to have passed. So I have two, and that is perfect. They are two and a half months younger than Han & Leia. I will wait to name them for now, but I am thinking about it. They are also a different color variation than their older counterparts.
