That is so funny! Your setup looks great! I'm jealous of your barn! I would love having that much space! I've had to start from scratch building my chicken run and house.

Well we looked at around 50 houses/properties before deciding on this place. Its an older 4 bedroom on 2 acres, the house is kind of an odd layout but we are doing a major remodel so that will be improved. But it was the barn and chicken coup that I fell in love with! ok ok.. I wanted to buy the house for the barn. How common is THAT in a girl?!

They sure are! and they are growing so fast already. The survivors seem to be doing ok. I'm a little disappointed that I've lost almost all the bantams but I think it will be ok with the standards. The weather was great until last week and then it got incredibly cold so fast and I was very worried! If I had gotten mine only a week before I don't think I would have lost any. :(

What size tub are you using as a brooder? I like it. How high are the walls and how long to you plan on keeping them in there? Our very first chicks are coming next month so I'm thinking about the brooder now. Thanks!

Gorgeous birds. I believe the ones that you thought were Phoenixes are actually Araucanas

I hope not!! I have plans for the phoenix.. and I paid alot of money for them. They look more like the phoenix chick pictures though... with teh strong bands behind their eyes. But I guess we will see in time...

actually its a Christmas tree box by Rubbermaid. It was on sale at walmart after Christmas. We have been looking for another one but cant find it here. Here is where I got the idea: http://hedgehogcentral.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4503&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=0 they list the dimensions there.

I wanted it with the lid but it was missing so I got a discount on top of the clearance price ;)

edited to add: they will be graduating to the larger brooder in the garage when the weather is warm enough for me to feel safer putting them out there. For now they are ok but with no lid as soon as I seem them starting to get intrested in trying to get out.. its out to the garage.

We (as in I) looked at about 20 places this summer before deciding on ours. We knew we wanted a little bit of land, at least 2.5 acres, and a big enough house. The thing that really settled this house was it's outbuildings, a huge 2nd garage and two sheds that are solid on three sides. I still have to build my coop, but the sheds will be wonderful when we get pasture animals (sheep, goats, alpaca, we're not sure yet). I'd say we're two of the same kind of girl. :)

I've found lots of great barns.... my problem is my DH is fussy about the house.
Some men. Gota love him though, he puts up with crazy chicken lady stuff every day!
Like the incubator that I got in the mail last night.

All he said was "remember, we only have so much space right now"
Yeh, so as soon as I get more space I can have more.... right? How is that for chicken logic.

I figure I'll start with 2 dozen in the first hatch and see were it goes from there.
