Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Do you think sand under the rock would be a good idea? I used to worry about fleas getting in sand but I think it was just the stuff I had brought in from the creek some years back that was the problem.

Depends on what's under where the sand would go. Sand could just make it worse, never mind the fleas. That area is going to stay soaked, so something to make the rocks not sink into the ground is what you need, or extra rocks to add when necessary.

Do a member page on it anyway, even if hubby doesn't want to do up the plans.

My bad! Does it say that entries need plans?
Doesn't really HAVE to have plans per say. . but for the contest it technically should.

I may play around with it when I go on Christmas break and have some time.

I'd think something like landscape mesh would work fine; small openings that rocks can't go through, plastic that won't rust, and self-draining.

It's just dirt underneath. It would've nice to put a rubber mat underneath the rock like Liz suggested early on in my thread about the run. . but dang those things are expensive. Will just have to see what prices are on sand vs. Rock. Sand may be cheaper to fill some volume. Or possibly pea gravel with the river rock on top. I figure it will eventually sink and will have to add rock at times.
