I bought mine as a "new customer return". Somehow the plate came loose from the housing, I couldn't return it, so i glued it back together. I took a picture of the inside while i had it open. The heating coil is under the mylar.

My main worry is the birds picking at the wires. No diss to anyone who uses them, I'm just not a fan. We always appreciate your technical expertise though Phil.

I've meant to get some of that. Walnut Hill used it alot.
Yeah the way I set mine up they don't have access to the wires..... Mine is inside it's own cover...... Then I make a wire mesh cave..... Then I wrap a towel around it and duct tape it..... Pretty fool proof.......

... Get you all guess where I am?

Hey Kathy... or anyone else, really. My Silver Appleyard duck turned up limping today. I'm unsure why. The ankle is swollen somewhat, but there is no evidence of bumblefoot and it doesn't look like frostbite. She can still tuck it into her feathers and hold it right, she just doesn't bear much weight on it. Thoughts? I have no pen space to bring her in until tomorrow, unfortunately. They are full of bantams that couldn't take the more prolonged cold. :hmm

You know honestly every now and again I get a duck that will limo around for a day or two..... Usually resolves itself.
My oldest duck Snowball had developed a permanent ( although slight and doesn't stop her from doing anything) limp.... For no reason I can see.....I figure in her case it's from that terrible injury she had last year..... Kinda like we have issues when we get older from old injuries....

Man, I want to beat some sense into a woman on FB. She has put heat lamps in her coop against a lot of people's recommendations, and is bragging about how her birds are doing well this way and she's getting eggs and they aren't frozen.

I just want to post saying, have fun when you lose power and all your birds die, lady.
