Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

You’re so sad about this bird because sometimes there is one that just worms it’s way into your heart. My chickens aren’t pets, but every now and then one doesn’t get the memo and I get attached. (Those are always the first ones to get eaten by predators when they come.)

I don’t know how the little ones couldn’t be breathing it second hand. My gut reaction is that Social Services needs a call, but I would also hesitate. It’s a tough call.
Well I am hoping that the wacky stuff is being smoked outside in the out building and the kids are in the house. They have been hanging out in the shed lately. . even installed a wood stove in there. So I don't know if the aroma was coming from burning wood or the other. .but it sure did not smell like wood.

Went by my house on break to check on ducks and stuff and got to hear my neighbor chic cussing out her kids again. Seriously. . I'm starting to wonder if I should call cps. :th
I just don't know. If I call and make a report. . they will tell them what they report was about at the least. . and they will likely know it was me. Not really anyone else close enough to hear it. And I mean what if she is just a stressed out mom trying her best. I haven't seen any physical abuse.
But then there is the trash. . uhh. You just don't know what goes on behind closed doors. I don't want to be a nosey neighbor but it's kinda hard not to see and hear it.
It's a tough spot for sure.. saw where you were saying she's in a bad situation. That makes it harder to know what to do. I haven't got advice other than keep an eye on it. If something needs done and you're the one to do it, you'll know..:hugs:hugs
So, I found Kewp this morning. She was wedged in the very center of one of our gigantic bushes. It took a bit of work just to get to her. She was breathing, but barely - not opening her eyes. She's been one of those flighty and frail EEs her whole life. But, I have been really taking care of her for the better part of 6 months now; so I couldn't just euthanize her on the spot. I know. I know. My advice to others would be totally different from what I'm doing right now. I made her a comfy bed of straw (she was never a people friendly bird, so holding her would not allow her to rest) in a warm spot away from the other birds. She kind of nestled in and I propped her head up a little. Her eyes are closed and I know she's not got long. :( Why am I so sad about this bird??
There always seems to be that one that tugs on our heart strings..:hugs
I've got one roo that is my downfall. A roo of all things.. :lau

That's all good stuff, right?? :D

I still have 2 bantam Am eggs going strong. :fl my luck, I'll hatch 2 roosters.

Agree with everyone else, tough situation.
Maybe if you go outside and yell at your ducks, she'll realize that her yelling can be heard too!

The kids aren't even old enough to be in school yet.:th
I don't know them at all. Moved here from out of town.
I have heard from city workers that they have had their electric turned off a time or two and the woman tells them her husband takes off and leaves them from time to with no money. She is obviously struggling .. The other night it smelled like a field of Mary Jane burning over there. .
I don't care about that except for it makes me wonder if the little ones are in there breathing it!
And whether all the money goes for drugs, or if she buys groceries first.
