Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

@kwhites634 - I can only speak to my experience.. I do three weeks in the coop before I let them out. By then, my chooks are 9 weeks old and a little more hawk savvy. (3 weeks in brooder, 3 in "transitional housing" (my carport pen that can still be hooked up to heat if necessary), and 3 in the outdoor pen before I open the gate to the big wide world. (Although my little SFH storm the gate every time it's opened, so they may end up outside sooner rather than later. :) )

All caught up. But I'm too heartbroken to reply to anything. Went outside to let the ducks out this morning, my drake Jax was already out in the yard. How'd he get out? I opened the gate, the adults and 2 of Lexi's babies came running out. Where are the rest?

7 dead ducklings.... 6 floating in the boat, 1 up on the rocks beside it. :hit

A tree branch had fallen on my electric fence, I guarantee it was a raccoon that got in. Only the ducklings were killed. Chickens all fine, other 2 ducklings in a different area are fine, even the broody that is wedged behind the baby coop is fine.

I'll be building a new fence and adding another layer of electric wire this evening.

:hit  :hit  :hit

Squirt and Bianca? :fl

Squirt and Bianca are fine, they are still separated from horny Jax. And 2 of Lexi's babies are good, a blue fawn (got her quack this morning, looking for her buddies) and a grey (probable female too). I didn't even take time to look over the adults for wounds, but they seemed ok.
The odd thing is all the dead bodies except for 1 were floating inside the boat. Mostly up under the hull where they sleep. :hit

I'll be setting a few box traps tonight for sure. I got the fence re-electrified before I left this morning too.
