Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

All caught up. But I'm too heartbroken to reply to anything. Went outside to let the ducks out this morning, my drake Jax was already out in the yard. How'd he get out? I opened the gate, the adults and 2 of Lexi's babies came running out. Where are the rest?

7 dead ducklings.... 6 floating in the boat, 1 up on the rocks beside it. :hit

A tree branch had fallen on my electric fence, I guarantee it was a raccoon that got in. Only the ducklings were killed. Chickens all fine, other 2 ducklings in a different area are fine, even the broody that is wedged behind the baby coop is fine.

I'll be building a new fence and adding another layer of electric wire this evening.

:hit  :hit  :hit
Oh no!!! Oh WV! I am so incredibly sorry to hear this!! Stupid, stupid, stupid raccoons. :hugs:hugs:hugs

And I know I jinxed myself, just yesterday or the day before, I posted about being able to leave my pop doors open and the ducks not locked in a house, just in their run. Karma pisses me off when I'm the recipient. :he
Yeah, whenever I think "I have such beautiful, healthy birds!" one dies...

And it didn't even eat them or take them. Just killed, like for sport. Disgusting. I felt bad when I shot the first raccoon we trapped a few years ago. I will take pleasure shooting this one or these, when I trap them.
they may have just jumped in the boat to get away from it and eventually just drowned. :(

Poor babies :hit
And poor Lexi :hit
And poor wv. :hit
I know what ya mean. . kinda like I said I've not had a fox in my back yard.

I do have a bit of good news... one of the "lost" ducks showed up around 6 yesterday evening. She looks fine tho so idk... maybe she has a clutch. I just cant find it, or the other two hens...:barnie

I hate that. Such a worry. Hope you find them. No way to track them? Maybe the one that returned will wander back to where the other 2 are? Keep a sharp eye on her.

I have 5 Buff Orpington juvies, hatched 3/26, that I'd like to be able to free range on their own. They've been in their own coop/run a couple weeks. Given their age, y'all think they'd have sense enough to come back to the coop on their own?

Treat train them. You call "here chick" and they come running to you for scratch. That is the only way that I herd chickens... scratch.

But yeah, they are old enough to run about and come back to bed.

Hugs to you Al, i don't recall you being sick recently. Maybe the bugs are thawing out?

Remember that horrid illness eldest had during finals? Eldest, now in Houston, eldest?

Yeah... parting gift.
