Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

That part isn't that odd.

There are some super steep rockslide areas along that stretch of highway.

But yeah, all of the road issues at once... our infrastructure is not that great. Repairing everything will take some time!

One year when most of the bridges were out all along the peninsula.... it took maybe 6 weeks before we could drive to Anchorage again.
Happy all are well away up there. Have to watch night line see what's going on now .:fl:fl:fl:fl:fl

1968? And wasn’t much of the damage done by a tsunami? (Trying to remember what I learned at the museums we visited.)
In 1964. I had a friend who survived it along with her family... They lived on Kodiac Island she was about ten years old at the time.

That one was listed as a 9.2. The USGS learned alot from that quake.

Yep.

Anything built after that is built pretty well.

Which is good, because we get quakes all of the bleeding time!

But...

Usually they are 4 to 6, so not usually as strong as the one this morning. And we only have 2 big cities... I think those bridges and overpasses and such in the city are harder to make stable.

So... if the quake's center is further away from the 2 big cities.... way less damage is possible

@Alaskan, I was worried. Glad son in Anchorage is okay. Sounds as if there is a real mess there.

Yep. Luckily it sounds like the dorm he is in is fine, power is back up, wifi is up..... and they are still running the cafeteria... so no problems for him. :lau

Thanks

Oh! I was so close!

We read the newspaper articles at the museum Soldotna. We visited several historical museums while we were there. We like history, so that's what we do for entertainment.

There are some surprisingly good museums up here. I like them!

Thanks

Oh my goodness Alaskan!! I'm just now hearing all of this! I'm glad you and the boy are ok! :hugs

Yep! All good!

Last I heard there were no fatalities. Which is nice.

I read the national geographic article on the earthquake this morning and it said "The region is the most earthquake-prone in the United States, with an average of one magnitude 7 to 8 temblor striking each year since 1990. " Ha! I knew we had lots... but wow!

Hey, do these new shoes make my knees look wrinkly? :lau
