Peaceful morning Pond,
Our beautiful (but too warm) weather has temporarily departed. The wind is back with a bit of a bite and the rain should move in soon. No complaints. Just heavy rain that soon drains away to curse our neighbors further downstream. Nothing like what those of you on the southern or eastern shores of the pond. Prayers for all caught in the path of those incredible, horrible storms. I can't believe how long that has gone on!!!

I never know quite how to greet folks on this day. Saying "Happy" Memorial Day never seems quite right to me. Especially to those who have lost a friend or loved one in the service of our country, (aka us) and really, what family hasn't or at least knows someone close to the family, who has? Yes, it's become a time to celebrate the official beginning of summer (for most), enjoy family and friends, and that's ok, but it's also a time to pause for a moment and truly hear the sound of the taps being played from countless cemeteries and memorials in every city and small town, and to remember those left behind who also gave all that might be silently weeping and just whisper, "thank you".

We had one... built to run off of the tractor.

It was hand built, not very fast, but it could split ANYTHING!

But 2 summers back all of the gaskets started failing.... it was raining hydraulic fluid!

We just haven't taken the time to take it apart and rebuild it....

Right now we have so many boys at home... :idunno
Some of the Youtube videos about splitters scare the crap out of me. The ones that take an entire limbed tree from trunk to stove-ready w/o the operator touching it or moving from the control panel are ingenious, but the ones that split in both directions are, I think, dangerous when the operator's used to using a one-direction setup.

I'd settle for a way to cut the trunk up 16" at a time w/o having to bend over; even my light saw kills my back with all that bending.

Log splitters Both Scary and INgenious... Non powered and powered.

My favorite Its a spiral head piercing tool There are several examples on the videos but Here is a close up of one

Once it starts cutting it draws the wood in and Even without the wedge will split the hardest wood.... Just need a good table under it. its shown on the last part of the following video

several examples both scary and ingenious

I like the ones with a swing arm and short travel

Last video is pretty Funny.... Picks the BIGGEST Chunk of wood to prove a point...
