Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

I had the same experience at Walmart! I had a list in my head of what I wanted, but once in the store, it all left me. It was so strange, I couldn’t wait to get out of there! So I got the 2 things I had initially gone in for, but none of the things DH and I talked about on the way there. (Our nearest Walmart is about 1 1/2 hours away.)
Walmart is quite a ways from us as well in our county seat so when we do go into town we usually make the trip count. We made none of the other usual stops, fleet farm, Menards, we just got what we needed, got our lunch and couldn't get back out of town fast enough. Didn't feel normal again until I was walking outside to check on the chooks.

I know! Surreal is the best way I can think of to describe it. Glad to be home again.

Ok Sticker shock is what someone here said about me looking at kitchen cabinets...

They would be RIGHT. If you want plywood construction you have to go through their design center at the big box stores...

Just for Two drawer bases ONe thirty six inch one eighteen inch and one sink cabinet at 36 inch and one eensy cabinet with doors 14 x 24.

Over three Grand and thats without counter tops. Lowes is having a 20 percent off sale and I get an extra 5 percent off for having a Lowes Card so That brought the price down to 2 Grand and change.... :th

I am going to seriously look at the budget and see if I really need cabinets at all. I can do a commercial kitchen for under a thousand. I iwll have to look at my Restaurant supply store catalog again.

Good idea.....

Also, try to think if there is anything that you have, or can scrounge, that can be used as cabinets.

A crate screwed to the wall.... or.... ??

Thankyou for your suggestions... But I am tired of building things out of other things... Especially for a kitchen that will be setting on a brand new floor.

I still havent contacted a cabinet maker. no telling if he would charge more but it is worht a free quote. I can afford the Lowes cabinets. And the floor Rehab. I will need to adjust my budget accordingly.

to give you an idea the floor measures exactly 744 square feet stem to stern... my kitchen is technically 121 square feet.

Floating shelves, maybe? Everything would be out in the open, though.

Or one of those places that sell contractors' extra inventory? Or maybe keep an eye on Facebook Marketplace Local and/or Craigslist for something that Susie Homemaker got tired of.
