Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Yeah, that is really blue!

So, you now have 2 females, and 1 male?

Are your girls laying?

One girl and one boy. A pair of bobcats unfortunately took quite a toll on my and my neighbor's flocks. The blonde babies were still small enough to be vulnerable, and they kept sleeping outside the barn... :(

They're seasonal layers, so Ciara won't lay until late Fall/early Winter.

I am so sorry!!!

I missed that you lost the blond babies!

Good afternoon pond paddlers,
we finally got a break or two in the weather here. At least it was cool enough so you could get things done in between the rain drops. Thankfully all the nasty stuff missed us again. First coat of paint on most parts of the coop complex, second coat on some of the doors. Couldn't believe how the price of paint has shot up! Good Grief! Got some roof patch spread on the front ramp while the DH took a short break. It should be set up good enough to lay down the new roll roofing tomorrow. The roll asphalt roofing has a self adhesive backing so it's easy to put down and it makes a nice non-slip protective cover for the ramp that stands up to years of snow/rain/hot sun abuse. Problem we had was that the original roll wasn't wide enough to cover the entire width so we just stuck it down the middle. It's still working just fine, the problem is the paint wasn't enough to protect the uncovered sides and the plywood overlay started to buckle. I knocked off the buckling/raised parts this morning with an ice spade and used the roof patch to fill in the holes I made, level the surface and waterproof the wood.
It's supposed to get hot and sticky again but no rain til Saturday p.m. so we have time. Good thing because we have to take the trailer to town in the morning. Just got the call that the new "shed in a box" came in. That's a project that can wait til the weather cools back down. Other chores need doing first. Can't believe we're looking at just a little over a month before our first chance for a freeze. The logging and the crazy weather has set us back on everything. At least the decision to just let the kitchen garden go to the chickens got us back some time for other things. We started the summer behind because of all the chores that didn't get done last year because of the power loss/damage clean up from the storm that hit us this same week last year and kept us rushing to clean up that mess before the snow. Pa is really slowing down this year. His age and a life of hard work is finally catching up to him. It's a good thing I'm finally doing a lot better than I have in years so I'm able to step up more and his male ego is finally letting me. ;)
