Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Ended up picking up a shift at the feed store today. The manager begged me last night to please just come in for a shift any time I wanted today to try to deal with the chick situation.

They sent us over 500 birds at once. We have no room in the brooders, because we have chicks in there that we can't sell even on sale; no one wants straight run, and they keep sending us straight run.

So we have six tubs set up out back also. There are probably a good 700 birds in the store, at least.

Today I spent over two hours cleaning the brooders, feeding, watering, de-pasting butts, and moving birds around to try to make room in the brooders so I could move some from out back up front so we could sell them.

Oh, and the manager emailed the people in charge of sending chicks to all the stores to tell them to PLEASE stop sending us chicks.

Good thing, because apparently they planned to send us literally 600 more next week.
Most of us have no use for straight runs.
I'm already trying to deal with too many drakes. And am willing to pay the extra for hens.
It's sucks for you though. If they wouldn't fight and I wouldn't mind. Before my flock got wiped out by predators I had the same 6 hens with 2 adorable drakes. They all got along so well.
After that I ended up with 3 drakes and no hens. The drakes started going after my call duck hens. I had to scrabble and paid top dollar to get 3 hens. Mostly because it's a pandemic year and there were no swap meets...
I have 3 drakes and 3 hens and they all get along pretty good now. I'm knee deep in calls tho. If I'm not careful in going to end up like Raven. Those calls like to multiply.... lol

Oooh!

:drool

I have been ogling cars... I really have to buy a new car soon-ish (by fall at the latest).

I want a Subaru, or a Jeep.

Our newest car is a 2006, and wow, we are NOT gentle on our cars!!!!
I always opt for jeeps when I can. Be careful with Subarus. They are good cars but almost seems like most get drippy headgaskets.
And you might not be gentle on your cars but I'm down right hard on them. Lol

last 2 cars were jeep Libertys---wish they still made them! my daughter loves her Subaru.

Morning fellow splashy folk,
more rain this morning but no loud noisy stuff last night so everybody, especially the critters, got a good night's sleep finally. Supposed to get noisy again this p.m. tho. At least all this weather has finally gotten the fire danger out of the red zone. There had already been several wildfires around the northwoods. Losing the snow cover early, like this year, makes for dangerous living for a couple months for us country/woodsy dwellers since nothing actually even begins to green up until mid May leaving a very "crunchy" landscape. Other good news is no flooding (yet) because the freaky weather helped to really thaw the ground. Still some deep frost of course but the top has thawed down enough to allow the precip to move along to the rivers etc. so no "ponding". Bad for the folks downstream but great news for us.
