Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Hi fellow pond skaters,
snowplow.gif
Just trying to check on my garden. I know it's under there somewhere, sigh.

Well, our state is now under what is the poultry equivalent of the Covid lockdown. Anything publicly poultry has been indefinitely suspended. No swap meets, poultry shows, sales and no poultry judging at any of the fairs, including the state fair until further notice. Also they are very close to following the British rulebook on quarantine and reporting of backyard, aka small private, flocks.
 Boy, am I happy now that I caved and bought those chicks from Tractor Supply.

Yikes! Bird flu? (Thought I heard something about it on the news but can't remember exactly what.)

It's spreading fast, working it's way thru from New England thru the Midwest as far as Iowa that I know of. Millions of chickens and turkeys have already been "disposed' of so far and now 7000 ducks after it was just discovered in a large farm in Kansas (?). Two huge poultry farm operations here in the past couple months and now two backyard flocks have been verified and destroyed. Fortunately nothing in northern WI yet, but the spring migration is just beginning to get this far north. At first they were blaming it solely on waterfowl but that doesn't compute since the poultry farm with 1.7 million birds here isn't under the normal flyway and it was a completely enclosed secure inside building operation. Anyway, so far they are only warning about wild birdfeeders but I expect to hear any time they have been banned too.

:wee the two "babies" that turned 25 wks old (for certain) this week finally started laying!!! I was really beginning to wonder if they were going to. I've got to get a recent pic of those two. If you remember they are pure Orp, just 1/2 Buff and 1/2 Lav with the over standard size parents. These two are already so big they make my senior Buff hen and her Wyandotte buddy look like the pullets. These two are so HUGE they look like off color turkeys!!!
