Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

This is what I know of
The Celadon Quail are a special variety of Coturnix Quail who carry a rare, recessive gene (the celadon gene) which causes their eggs to be a gorgeous blue ...
That's about what I know too lol. And their origin. But I visited a local farm that was selling quail chicks and I watched that thing lay a blue egg 🤣 Maybe a texas a&m is a type of coturnix. Time for more research 🤣🤣 I totally bought some of the offspring tho to see if I can breed out the brown eggs and only get blue eggs.

Then that would explain it lol. Thank you! I bought 32 birds today or $70. But they were all three or four weeks old. And I turned around and sold eight of them, for $60. So basically I spent $10 on 24 birds LOL But Quail are kind of hard to find in my area. Especially anything different than Wild type.

The hatchery sent straight run Mystic Marans to my work this week. I was walking by the tank, looked in, and thought it was weird that some looked barred.

Thought about it for a second and went, wait, they wouldn't send a sex-linked hybrid to us as straight runs, would they?

Yes they would. Mystic marans are apparently a cross of BCM roosters over barred rocks hens.

So anyway I picked six pullets out of the tank and went on my way with my 'straight run' chicks, lol.

That's AWESOME!!

Good Evening, Pond!

Well, we got to and from Omaha, and spent the whole day at the zoo without incident. So a much less eventful trip than our last one.

We checked the garden after we got home and picked 8 1/2 lbs. of string beans. They are now in 17 pint jars in the canner.

When DH went out to pick eggs, he discovered a chicken that had been trapped under the coop while we were gone (no food or water, temps in the 80’s). She’s still alive, but very weak. We’ll see how she is in the morning. It’s one of my meat pullets. I’m guessing those randy cockerels chased her under there. They’re going to be relocated to the freezer next week. This week is much too busy. I’m taking my mom to see her siblings tomorrow and Tuesday, and we’re watching the local grandkids Wednesday and Thursday.

Have a great week, everyone!
