Hackle feathers are the longer male feathers down the neck, circled in red... saddle feathers are circled in blue...

Both are male characteristics...

They don't show up until they molt their juvie feathers for adult feathers...

Keep in mind the gender differentiation of these feathers is not apparent until they hit "puberty"....generally showing at 14+ weeks

This is the one sold to me as an AMERICAN...aka Ameraucana .....It is still so much smaller than my others.
Is she a female?
And I've been calling her legs gray....but are they blue?
