Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

It's a crazy day already! I'm not sure what to do here and I'm sorry but this is really gross, I gagged. Poot Ethel looked weird this morning, just sitting and staring when she is usually running around and scratching at everything. I went over and her tail feathers looked dirty so I raised the tail feathers and she had maggots on her butt. I grabbed her and put her in the bath tub then rinsed her for a few minutes, she wasn't happy at all, she is now sitting in warm water that I added salt to and she seems to be enjoying herself. Any idea why this happened and what I need to do? It looked like she has a bloody butt but I'm not sure since I was in a rush to get those nasty things off my poor little girl. She has been sitting in saltwater about 10 mins or so now and I'm headed to rinse and dry her off then check out her wound. Should I clean her with peroxide and use antibiotic cream or do I need to hit the store for something else? UGH I'm not looking forward to checking out her butt!

Look up "Flystrike" in chickens. I suspect I have one right now too. :(

One of my 3wk old turkeys has an injured leg. Got it in a pen by itself, I actually found it yesterday and put it in with the chicks in the brooder, found them standing on the poor thing this morning.
I don't feel anything out of place no swelling but he won't put any weight on it. Eating, drinking, chirping, poo normal..Any suggestions?

I'm not good with naming, but I think he has earned one :D

Luckily there are none of those types around here. :lau

Cute! Sorry some didn't make it.

Over here too?? We've helped raise that boy around here. :p

:love Wow, he's actually very stunning for what would normally be a cull bird.

:hugs:hugs:hugs You work so hard. I sold 11 birds this weekend, 14 more leaving this week, but broodies keep replacing them. :th

Did you look at the comments?? Surely someone told them how to find the tits, right?

:lau

:ya Go Team!!

Very possible it just a first time mom thing, but might not hurt to check into her diet or anything around that she might eat that could cause it. Did you deworm her prior to giving birth or early in pregnancy? Not sure about pigs mind you, but certain dewormers can cause problems in preg goats.
