Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

I don't cook much. I would like to try ham & beans.

 Yes, sir.

:frow :lau

:hugs We ate mostly canned & frozen crap. I don't ever remember my mom making any sort of dessert.
The thing I like about ham and beans is - when I can remember - to put it on early in the morning - really slow simmer - lots of chilli powder, cumin, bay...and then the whole house smells yummy. Not in the summer. Definitely not a summer dish.

We had can stuff too, there wasn't the money for TV dinners and frozen stuff.
Deserts were few and far between but the cobbler always made me feel good.

Some people with wood stoves just leave the pot on the stove..... Eat as you want to... It's a great winter food for sure.

Yeah growing up in Detroit Metro area Halloween rocked.... I've only had a few truck or treaters in the past 35 years here....I give out dollar bills....a can of Coke.... And a big Hersey bar every year.....I end up eating then mussel most years.... After I go to the neighbors house and leave a few for her grandkids.
Haven't seen a trick or treater here for 43 years; 600' of gravel lane is farther than they want to go, 'specially when it's uphill going back.

I finally caught up....I realize what nice people you are...I would kill my kids if they did some of the stuff you all had to deal with.... Honestly I didn't deserve such good kids....I pray everything works out for you all.
Like a said shawluvsbirds let her she know you are angry but don't go overboard.... But you are a injured party here too....I gsve all my kids cars when they were old enough to drive.... That's more than my parents ever did. But all my kids were working by they age....I made sure that had better cars than me.... Because my daughter is the only one who has a clue as to how to work on a car.
I think it's getting harder for kids to get work anymore.... Here because of rules in the AHCA they can't get enough hours to justify driving 30 miles to town....a 4 hour shift doesn't hardly cover gas after taxes.
When I was a kid I worked Pretty much full time.... One year I was working night shift.... Now that's. Not even legal.
Not sure if that's for the better or not.
I think all my exposer to the job market when I was younger gave me a good work ethic.
But I got my first real job when I was probably 14..... Think I was 12 when I got my paper route.
My sons have been pretty easy - the daughter... when she was a sophomore I quit my job, pulled her out of school, and radically changed the way I was raising her. (Kind of late, I know - I just really thought I could get by doing what I did for the boys.) It was one of the hardest, best things I've ever done. And hey, we started raising chickens together! Chickens, once again, for the win! :highfive:

Yeah it's just not the same In Marquette either.... They trick or treat only in the daylight... For an hour....:(
Out here where we are, the only light comes from houses, & some of them are far apart & a long way off the road, although there are a couple developments further east.
