Many (not all) female dogs have encysted roundworm larvae that are activated by maternal hormones thereby infecting pups. I am not certain if any other worms are passed in utero. My dogs are routinely wormed with Ivermectin. I have not had roundworms or for that matter ANY worms in any pups over the past 25 years. Good husbandry leads to good results. I seriously doubt that 75% failure rate on fecal results.

Very true Sour!
Doesn't necessarily mean the mom is infested.
Anyways we keep ivermectin on hand here too and we neither have never had any type of worms in our dogs.
I was just wondering if it was the same with chicks and if I needed to worm them immediately when I get new ones.
I don't want any kind of animal with any kind of worms.

So although my coop and yard will always be kept clean is it advised to still worm chickens?
at what age would one start and how often?

I do feed ff, fresh garlic, ACV, fresh oregano and cinnamon.

You'll read all sorts of different opinions - everything from never worming (unless s/s of something wrong) to a regular worming schedule several times a year. Part depends on your climate, I think.

My chickens haven't been wormed in years, most of them never have.

Thanks.
I actually am a firm believer in an ounce of prevention is....

I live in a dry climate, not as conducive to worm overpopulation, and I'm not one to give treatments for something my chickens don't have. (Or actually don't have a harmful population of.) They do get a healthy dose of pumpkin seeds and squash seeds every so often, especially around Halloween. :)

None of mine have ever been wormed. I have the medicine, just in case, but I've never used it.

I wormed them once cycle, two doses 10 days apart, had to discard about a month's eggs from my layer operation which worked out to 117 dozen worth $467. Cheaper to let the birds have worms, for sure, as I could have sold for soup and replaced 2/3 of my flock for that amount. After treatment I did not find visible worms in the droppings nor did the condition of the birds change.
